Call a former DUI Judge
with over 40 years experience
It’s that time of year again. Yep, St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and you know what that means: lots of green clothing and drinking. Who doesn’t want to raise a glass in honor of the man that supposedly chased all the snakes out or Ireland? (Totally not true, by the way. There never were any snakes on the Emerald Isle.) Unfortunately, many people choose to drink on this holiest day of alcohol consumption and then drive. There is nothing festive about a DUI, or the consequences they carry with them.
According to authorities, there is an exponential rise of alcohol related incidents on St. Patrick’s day. In 2009, one-third of the nation’s car accidents that occurred on March 17th involved alcohol. These accidents were the cause of almost 50 people’s lives coming to halt.
However, with the help of modern technology or a little bit of planning, there is no longer any excuse to get into a car and drive drunk. There are multiple ways a person can avoid a DUI on St. Patrick’s day, and simultaneously avoid the possibility of harming themselves or someone else. Here are a few helpful idea’s on how to get your drink on safely this St. Patrick’s day.
Uber is a revolutionary new app that can be downloaded right onto your smartphone. This app connects its user to a driver in minutes. All you need to do is tap the screen to set your pickup location, request a ride and a driver will accept. Then simply enter the address of the place you wish to go and when the driver arrives, the app has already showed the driver your intended destination. Seriously, it’s that easy. Plus every driver that is employed by Uber, whether they are a taxi driver or a private one, has gone through and passed an extensive background check. There is no need to worry. By using Uber you are safe in more ways than one.
Go Old Fashioned
You can always call a taxi. Day or night. Its even easier to find one now that smartphones have the power of the internet. It will cost some money, but a DUI can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000 with the biggest monetary cost being the jump in your insurance. There’s also the chance of death as well. Let’s not forget death. Or manslaughter. Or permanent disfigurement caused by the accident…you know what, just use a taxi. Trust us.
Designate A Driver
Yes, yes, we know you’ve heard this one before. But this is a tried and true method. One member of the group can be schmoozed into being the DD for the night, as long as the rest of you offer to buy his or her Drinks the next time you guys all go out. It’s only fair.
Rent a Hotel Room and Walk
This idea may not occur to many people, but if you and a large group of friends plan on hitting the bars this St. Patrick’s day, why not all pitch in and rent a hotel room that is close to the bars. This way you can walk, or call a taxi and the taxi fare will be extremely cheap. It’s a fool proof plan, and everyone involved will benefit.
We wish you the safest possible St. Patrick’s day this year. However, if you choose not to take any of the above advice and do end up getting a DUI give The Weingart Firm a call to schedule a free case consultation at (480) 897-8737.
